Refulgent - Feather Dust is a queer RPG Maker visual novel, with sporadic RPG elements.

Taking place in the modern day, in the fictional city of Angel’s Light, the game consists of two separate story paths.

In Refulgent, you follow Jagger Flux – a journalist who is trying to gather dirt on the mayor of the city. What he doesn’t realise, is that the pair of them have already met, but not in the way that you’d expect! As a result, he doesn’t realise the true nature of their relationship just yet...

In Feather Dust, you follow Daryan Apostle; a twenty-three-year-old transgender man, who accidentally finds himself involved in a conspiracy regarding human experimentation. Although, one could call that a just punishment for drink driving...

There’s also a magical necklace - but that won’t be relevant, surely!

Both paths focus on an entirely different cast of characters, and explore the intricacies of trauma, self-love/doubt, change... and many other parts of the human experience.

Although a lot of the game is comedic in nature, there are some moments which may be upsetting. As a result, content warnings are provided (and can be turned on/off).

SUMMARIES:

REFULGENT PART 1:

Jagger comes across a big break in his research – and ends up at the home of an ex-model. This encounter is their first realisation that there’s something strange going on in the city; on top of all of the corruption.

FEATHER DUST PART 1:

Daryan hits someone with his car whilst drink driving... what happens next will shock you! (It’s religious trauma, it’s always religious trauma; but it’s also his first real brush with the darker side of the city.)

This really is something special! One of the more impressive demos that I've seen.

The good: 
-huuuge amount of original assets!! it's amazing how much work was put into it. plenty of detail where most RPG Maker projects would just do what's easy.
-super cute presentation style. love the 2-frame jittery animations during full art cutscenes and battles
-relatable dialogue that's amusing without going full goofy comedy
-battles that exist for engagement and entertainment, rather than EXP progression or challenge.

The not as good:
-it's pretty hard to tell when you're supposed to push a key to advance certain full screen art scenes
-small text used for whispers is very hard to read
-I found the story very hard to follow, as it dumps a lot of characters and concepts into the player's lap very rapidly
-I didn't understand what the battle status effects did. If there was a place that explained it, I missed it completely.

Although I didn't fully grasp the story, the presentation and characters got me through it. The fact that it manages to be intriguing and entertaining even while being confusing is a testament to how good the art and presentation are!

Thank you for the feedback! These are all things I noticed as well and I'm hoping to fix them in the final version. I may add in something that explains the statuses better later on. I know the story can be kinda complex, and later on, I'm going to be focusing more on specific characters rather than the whole cast.
